GAMES MEMENTO FOR CLUB
FIVE apprenticeships are available in Townsville with Ergon Energy.
General manager operational support Jeff Green said most apprenticeships were offered to local people so they could develop their skills while remaining in the community with their family and friends.
Mr Green said this year’s recruitment campaign would aim to produce a diverse range of successful applicants so all were encouraged to apply.
“The network businesses have a strong focus on being representative of the communities they serve, so I encourage people of all backgrounds, whether they are soon to complete Year 12 or are mature- aged, to consider applying for this great opportunity to learn a valuable trade,” he said.
Visit the Ergon website for information. Applications close at 11pm on August 20. ORGANISERS of the Townsville Cultural Fest are celebrating the relocation of the event to James Cook University’s Douglas campus.
The event was originally held on The Strand, but organisers said performers, musicians, artists, food vendors and festival supporters had embraced the new location.
Organiser Farvardin Daliri said the festival was well established at JCU and would be there for years to come.
Dr Daliri said the relocation was a positive one, with open, natural venue allowing for higher profile performers, more food trucks, diversity in artefact traders and more.
The Townsville Cultural Fest will be held from August 17- 19.

During the 2018 Commonwealth Games, Surf Lifesaving Queensland played a key role in the opening and closing ceremonies with nippers and lifeguards from across the state — including Townsville — participating in the events.
Different clubs represented competing nations by carrying custom- made surf lifesaving boards, bearing the country’s name.
The board for Malta has now been presented to the Arcadian Surf Lifesaving Club as a memento of its role in the games.
Club summer surf program ambassador Zoe Breitkreutz said it was an honour to house and display the board.
“This board will be mounted at one of our two clubhouses, at the Strand and Alma Bay, for display in the near future,” she said.
“We are very proud to have the honour of receiving this board and wish to thank GOLDOC [ Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games Corporation] and all those volunteers that participated.”
