Race Day fun fol­lows solem­nity

COM­MEM­O­RATE those fallen and cel­e­brate lo­cal rac­ing with The Townsville Turf Club’s Re­mem­brance Day at the Races.

The turf club will hold a fun fam­ily day to­mor­row with a Re­mem­brance Day cer­e­mony at 10.50am, a kids’ su­per­hero cos­tume pa­rade at 11.30am, live mu­sic and lo­cal races.

Turf club chief ex­ec­u­tive Mindy Pow­ell- Hodges said the day would have a fam­ily feel.

“Bring the kids dressed up as their favourite su­per­hero and there’s prizes for that. Mr In­cred­i­ble and Black Pan­ther will be judg­ing so that will be a bit of fun.”

Ms Pow­ell- Hodges said as well as a sausage sizzle, pop­corn, fairy floss, face paint­ing and fun ac­tiv­i­ties, the day would also fea­ture eight lo­cal races in­clud­ing the Pal­larenda Stakes.

Since tak­ing over as chief ex­ec­u­tive of the club in Septem­ber, Ms Pow­ell- Hodges said there had been a strong fo­cus on re­vamp­ing the in­fra­struc­ture and land­scap­ing of the Clu­den fa­cil­ity.

“The gar­dens are look­ing fan­tas­tic, it’s ab­so­lutely beau­ti­ful,” she said.
