Free TAFE study for students

Townsville Bulletin - - NEWS - MARCEL BAUM

TOWNSVILLE students can study for free at TAFE in 2019.

Townsville MP Scott Stewart outlined the State Government’s initiative at Townsville State High School yesterday.

Year 12 students Charmaine Cooke and Nimo Ali Ahmed welcomed the program.

“Our lives are just beginning after Year 12,” Charmaine said.

She said Year 12 had been challenging and the free training was a good opportunity.

Nimo said as a new immigrant her focus had been on language development in Year 12. She hopes to work in aged care and the opportunity of free training was a bonus.

Mr Stewart said he was proud to be involved in the free training initiative.

“I think this is a great opportunity for our young people,” he said. “What we’re looking at doing is making sure they have a pathway, that they know there are opportunities for them to go and study at TAFE, get their Cert 3 qualifications, knowing that there is a job on the horizon for them.

“It just gives our young people another option that they can pursue.”

Mr Stewart said there were 160 qualifications on offer across the state in high priority industries.
