On toes to showcase skills

- KELSIE IORIO

STUDENTS at Townsville Community Learning Centre are celebrating this week’s push for disability awareness with a dance performance tomorrow.

To mark International Day for People with a Disability this week, the students are set to show off their skills and hard work after weeks of rehearsals with the help of local performing arts company Dancenorth.

TCLC teacher Sandy Rewald said the experience of rehearsing and performing was enriching for students, and was a strategy to help them achieve their best.

“Many of the students find it extremely difficult to sit down in class and do the same thing for a long time, many are non- verbal,” she said. “Being able to be a part of the community is the most important thing for them.”

Ms Rewald said students aged 11 to 14 would be on stage.

“The parents really love to be able to come and watch the students. It’s a really great event,” she said.

Catch the performance at Dancenorth’s studio tomorrow from 4pm.
