Funding Africa fest
THE State Government will give $ 20,000 a year for three years to Townsville’s African Festival.
The money comes from the Government’s Celebrating Multicultural Grants program.
More than 150 events being held in Queensland next year will share in $ 1.3 million.
Multicultural Affairs Minister Stirling Hinchliffe said the State Government had doubled multicultural grants funding to $ 6 million over three years.
“One of the best parts of my job is attending a myriad of multicultural festivals with crowds of Queenslanders and seeing how these events build cross cultural understanding and connectedness,” he said.
“Multicultural events are certainly embraced by Queenslanders with some events attracting more than 200,000 people.”
