Fund­ing Africa fest

THE State Gov­ern­ment will give $ 20,000 a year for three years to Townsville’s African Fes­ti­val.

The money comes from the Gov­ern­ment’s Cel­e­brat­ing Mul­ti­cul­tural Grants pro­gram.

More than 150 events be­ing held in Queens­land next year will share in $ 1.3 mil­lion.

Mul­ti­cul­tural Af­fairs Min­is­ter Stir­ling Hinch­liffe said the State Gov­ern­ment had dou­bled mul­ti­cul­tural grants fund­ing to $ 6 mil­lion over three years.

“One of the best parts of my job is at­tend­ing a myr­iad of mul­ti­cul­tural fes­ti­vals with crowds of Queens­lan­ders and see­ing how these events build cross cul­tural un­der­stand­ing and con­nect­ed­ness,” he said.

“Mul­ti­cul­tural events are cer­tainly em­braced by Queens­lan­ders with some events at­tract­ing more than 200,000 peo­ple.”
