Banking on Suzy to battle on through

TOWNSVILLE Fire guard Tess Madgen has backed Suzy Batkovic to overcome a neck injury and suit up against Adelaide tonight, describing the WNBL superstar as the “toughest person I know”.

Batkovic will be a gametime decision at Townsville Stadium after having an injection earlier this week to help settle a pinched nerve which has affected the strength in her left arm.

She managed just five minutes in last weekend’s road loss to Melbourne and hasn’t trained all week, but Madgen was confident Batkovic would do everything in her power to be there on game day.

“She’s getting better every day. She’s had the injection so we’re just going to have to see how she pulls up – fingers crossed,” Madgen said.

“She’s the toughest person I know. All the pain she’s already had to play through so I know if there’s any chance that she can play it’s going to be a no- brainer for her and she’ll be out there.

“She’s a natural born leader so she’s going to be doing everything she can, whether she is playing or not, to help us get the win.”
