Get in tune with the magic of Christmas

- CLARE ARMSTRONG

SANTA Claus is coming to Townsville where he will be joined by a host of special guests for Carols by Candlelight.

Townsville City Council’s annual Carols by Candlelight event will be held under the stars and on the grass at Riverway Stadium tomorrow from 5pm.

Children’s musician, actor and author Justine Clarke is the headline performer for the family- friendly event.

Townsville Mayor Jenny Hill said the event was a “great way” to bring the city together.

“I’m really looking forward to our beautiful new location and listening to Christmas carols under the stars and seeing residents dressed for the weather to match our tropical theme,” she said.

Community and Cultural Development Committee chair Cr Colleen Doyle said local talent would also be showcased.

“We held auditions for Carols earlier in the year and the program is filled with solo artists, duos and groups including the TheatreiNQ, Townsville Choral Society Choir, and of course our fantastic 1RAR band,” she said.

Councillor Verena Coombe said there would be free parking available at 1300 Smiles Stadium and a Park’n’Ride will run to Riverway every 15 minutes to help manage traffic into the area.

“It’s great that we can bring some of the Christmas festivities to the suburbs and celebrate Christmas together,” she said.

Due to the event being outdoors, heavy rain may force the cancellation of the event.
