Baby boom day to remember

Townsville Bulletin - - NEWS - KELSIE IORIO

A TOWNSVILLE mum has recounted the incredible story of giving birth during the region’s baby boom, where 20 babies were born in the same place on the same day.

Alice Rennie said she didn’t realise the full extent of the maternity ward rush at first.

“I had been in labour for three days and had gone up to the hospital three times, but I was sent home each time because they didn’t have a bed for me in the birth suite or the maternity ward,” she said.

“I kept thinking I was going to be that lady that gave birth on the side of the road.”

After a stressful start Ms Rennie gave birth to her first child, Freya, on January 25 this year. She said she felt lucky to have been a part of a memorable day.

To add to the crazy odds of January 25, Ms Rennie said a close friend of hers also gave birth during Townsville’s baby boom.

Don’t miss next week’s edition of the Townsville Eye which includes a special photo feature of Townsville babies born in 2018.
