Bullets reunion fires up Goulding

- GREG DAVIS

MELBOURNE United captain Chris Goulding is rejuvenated and ready to roll ahead of his NBL homecoming against the Bullets today at the Brisbane Convention Centre.

Goulding made his NBL debut with the Bullets at the Southbank venue 12 years ago and went to school across the road at Brisbane State High School, but this weekend is not a reunion – it is a business trip.

The 2016 Olympian made the hard call to withdraw from the Boomers squad for the most recent round of FIBA World Cup qualifiers.

Goulding needed to get over the knee injury that sidelined him for three NBL games and forced him to come off the bench for a handful of other games as he eased into action.

After Sydney’s win over the leader Perth on Thursday night, the second- placed United ( 9- 3) have the NBL’s longest active streak of four straight.

They face fourth- placed Bullets ( 5- 6), who have won three of their past four home games.

Goulding is “feeling fresh and ready to rock’’ against his old club.

“I was able to do some rehab stuff that I maybe wouldn’t have been able to do if I was with the Boomers program,’’ he said.

“It was a tough decision but it was the right one because I wasn’t able to train for a while there with my knee.

“I want to knock down a few more of my open shots and make good on opportunities … but as long as we are winning, I’m happy.’’
