TWIRL OF ACTIVITY AT NEW STUDIO

- KELSIE IORIO

LITTLE performers will have a new place to strut their stuff at a dance studio opening in Townsville next month.

Dancentral is set to launch in the North Shore and Garbutt areas in February, run by dance teachers Karen Ashford and Brittney Cristaldi.

Dancentral will aim to offer children as young as six months and older the chance to dance in a fun environment while also focusing on the skills associated with learning to dance.

Ms Ashford said Dancentral would offer classes including jazz, hip hop, tap, ballet and Twirl, a movement and learning program.

“Miss Britt and I have come to know many of the families in the Northern Beaches area and we are very excited to offer children the opportunity to dance in this area as well as in Garbutt,” Ms Ashford said. “Both of us are passionate about dancing, how it makes you feel, the opportunities it presents, the teamwork and friendships formed, and the health benefits associated with movement.

“The Garbutt location is new for us and will be largely used for ballet and Twirl classes, so we are hoping to bring our fun and inclusive classes to this area as well.”

The locations of the studio spaces are still being finalised, as are Dancentral’s exact timetables which Ms Ashford said would be based off interest and numbers, as the new business starts to gain traction on social media.

“We want children of all abilities to come and enjoy dancing,” Ms Ashford said.

Keep an eye on the DanCentral Facebook page for more updates, with studio addresses and timetables expected to be confirmed in the next few weeks.
