Crane lifts CBD build

- TONY RAGGATT

ONE of the largest master planned developments in Townsville’s CBD has hit another milestone with a crane erected on the site of Honeycombes Property Group’s next stage of Central development.

Four-level office building Liverpool Place is being built near the Cquniversity campus and will have its main entrance via Mayfair Lane.

This will be the fourth commercial building developed in the $450 million mixed-use development with three of these over the past five years.

The Australian Taxation Office has entered into an exclusive lease agreement for the premises which will accommodate 320 employees who will benefit from the precinct’s existing infrastructure including pathways, parklands, restaurants, shops, a fitness centre and cinemas.

Managing director Peter Honeycombe confirmed this latest project, located within the Waterfront Priority Development Area, involved extensive landscaping, civic works and waterfront walkways aiming to provide an activated pedestrian connection from the new stadium and hotel precinct through the north side to the CBD.

“The proposed development aims to maximise the activation of Ross Creek and involves significant investment in recreation and lifestyle infrastructure,” Mr Honeycombe said. “Car parks, pathways and bikeways benefit our commercial and residential tenants but also draw the wider community into the Townsville CBD, boosting the local economy.”

RCQ Construction has been appointed to lead con- struction of the project. Local contractors and suppliers will benefit from the $35 million project which is expected to contribute $60.3 million into the Townsville economy through the construction phase and ongoing activities.

An AEC Economic Impact Study has found Liverpool Place will generate 248 full time equivalent jobs, including 114 direct jobs in the CBD.

Mr Honeycombe said more than half of the Central master plan had been completed. Liverpool Place is due for completion in November.
