Townsville pair face 23 counts after traffic check

A TOWNSVILLE couple have been charged with 23 property, drug and traffic offences in an alleged crime spree at Mount Isa.

A 38-year-old man and 24year-old woman from Garbutt travelling in two cars were stopped by police about 7.15pm on Wednesday in Marian St for a licence check and roadside breath test.

The man matched a descriptio­n of a suspect pawning alleged stolen goods at a Mount Isa street business earlier in the day.

A search of both vehicles found a number of suspected stolen property items including new tools, clothing, registrati­on plates, personal identifica­tion and cards belonging to other people.

Other items of interest included six axes, a hunting knife, house breaking implement kit and used syringes.

The man was charged with 18 property, weapon, drug and driving offences.

He was remanded in custody until February 28.

The woman was charged with five offences including two counts of stealing and one count each of possess suspected stolen property, possess used utensil or pipe and possess property suspected to be used in the commission of a drug offence.

She was also issued with five traffic infringeme­nt notices.

The woman will appear in the Mount Isa Magistrate­s Court on February 2.
