Showers to start the week

- TESS IKONOMOU

SHOWERS are tipped for Townsville during the first few days of the week, with the weather expected to stabilise after ex-tropical cyclone Penny.

Bureau of Meteorology forecaster Michael Knepp said it was hard to see which parts of the city would experience the most rainfall as the strength of the showers was unpredictable.

“It’s no guarantee as they are hit and miss, but a trough is increasing the chance of a shower,” he said. “Those southeasterly winds have been bringing in the drier air.”

Angler Taylor Cason, 23, recently moved to Townsville from Sydney.

She said she had waiting for clear skies.

“It’s been perfect, we’ve been waiting for the rain to die off so we could come out,” she said. “We’ve had sunny days and thought we’d come out and chill out and chuck a rod in.”

Ms Cason said she was still holding out for her first catch in Townsville.

“I’ve caught nothing today … this is my first day fishing up here so nothing yet,” she said. been
