Search for stabber and victim

-

POLICE were last night searching for an offender and a victim after reports of a possible stabbing on a busy Townsville street.

Police were called to Flinders St at 5.47pm yesterday to reports a man was unconscious after being attacked outside Travel Associates.

Police arrived to find no victim at the scene and no trace of blood.

Regardless, officers began scouring the streets and questioning members of the public looking for what they described as an indigenous man in a black T-shirt.

Travel Associates employees Hayley Wiegaurd and Kerry Duscha witnessed the reported attack.

“(The victim) got pushed to the ground, got up, got pushed to the ground again, got stomped on … I saw he had something that that looked like a knife but I couldn’t be certain,” Ms Wiegaurd said yesterday.

Ms Duscha said she saw one man attack the other in what appeared to be a stabbing motion but she wasn’t sure if an actual stabbing occurred.

The women said the incident showed Flinders St needed a greater police presence.
