AMY’S GREAT WILLPOWER

- TESS IKONOMOU

PERSONAL trainer and mum-oftwo Amy Hermann went through her own significant weight loss journey and vowed to support other women through theirs.

The 33-year-old juggles being the F45 Townsville Training North studio manager and a mum to boys aged 11 and eight.

Ms Hermann moved to Townsville two years ago with her husband who is an Australian Defence Force member.

“Hopefully it will be my last posting because I absolutely love it here,” she said.

“I love the weather, the beaches and the scenery. There’s so many places that you can go and be active like Castle Hill, The Strand it’s the perfect place.”

In 2014 Ms Hermann decided to alter her lifestyle in a bid to improve her physical and mental health.

“I finally made the decision to change my life and losing weight not only just in the physical sense, but the emotional really hit home,” she said. “Being a mum myself of two little boys I wasn’t very active. The words that struck me were my husband’s. He said the only person who can change your life is yourself.”

Ms Hermann said women often put the wellbeing of their children and partners first, neglecting to take care of themselves.

“We’re always too busy, that’s the number one thing. I’m busy being a mum, I have a job and a big thing for us is we put our children first, our husband’s careers first,” she said.

“But that’s just an excuse as well, we need to make the time.

“I made that excuse myself and you need to jump over that hurdle.”

Ms Hermann said it was empowering to help other women conquer their body image issues.

“I’ve been there before … I feel like I know what they’re going through,” she said.

“I was never confident and seeing these women come in and getting their lives back, I absolutely love it.

“It’s definitely about confidence in our own bodies and being a happier person. That’s the biggest thing for me.”

In 2016 Ms Hermann wanted to push herself further and began competing in bodybuilding contests.

She brings this determination in her training and pushes the women to go hard.

“We push them a little bit we get them there,” she said.

“They don’t believe in themselves, but we do and then they realise they can do those things.”
