Attack on woman

A MAN accused of strangling, stabbing, slapping and pulling the hair of a woman has been arrested.

Cardwell police charged the 41-year-old Innisfail man after they were called to a disturbance at a Kennedy home about 3.30pm on Sunday.

When officers arrived at the home they found an injured woman aged in her 30s.

Police alleged the woman was choked by the man at the address on Friday.

It was further alleged the man then stabbed the woman twice, once in the arm and her thigh, in another assault on Saturday.

Police further alleged the man assaulted the woman on Sunday by slapping her and grabbing her by the hair several times before officers arrived.

The woman was taken to hospital for treatment to nonlife threatening injuries.

The man appeared in Innisfail Magistrates Court on Monday and was remanded in custody.

He will reappear before court on February 4.
