Plenty of pups in with a shot

Townsville Bulletin - - RACING - LEE PEARCE

GREYHOUND racing at the Townsville Showgrounds tonight features an 11-race program, headlined by the City Council Mayors Trophy over 498m.

This will be a great race to watch and will have the punters scratching their heads.

Alligator Creek trainer Joan Newnham has litter brothers Czarny (2), Dalmatynski (8) and Old Mate Kick (3) in this race, with Czarny winning last week’s Townsville Country Cup final in 28.78 seconds from box one. He has drawn well again, close to the rails, and if he begins well, will be very hard to catch. Dalmatynski has drawn wide this week after running second to Czarny from box two and will need to jump and get a clear run to cross to the rails.

Old Mate Kick has drawn well close to the rails and should be up there early.

Nome trainer Glen Olsen has two in this race, with Innocent Man (1) drawing well on the rails, and he can begin on his night and muster speed mid race, meaning he’s a big danger to Czarny.

Slow Dancer (4) will be up there, and Poppy Chooky (6) for Heath Ardle would have to be one of the outsiders and could sneak a place.

OUTSIDE CHANCE: Poppy Chooky to feature in tonight’s City Council Mayors Trophy.
