Stange sacking adds to Eagles’ woes
SYRIA are in lockdown ahead of tonight’s decisive Asian Cup clash with Australia amid the turmoil of coach Bernd Stange’s sacking.
There’s a sense pressure has been mounting within the Qasioun Eagles’ camp.
An opening scoreless draw against 10-man Palestine followed by Thursday’s 2-0 loss to Jordan was enough for the Syrian FA to fire Stange on the spot and appoint Fajr Ibrahim as his replacement. Moments before the axe fell on the former Perth Glory coach, Stange used his final post-match press conference to motivate the team for retribution against the Socceroos.
“I have to create an atmosphere of revenge maybe from our qualification for the World Cup,” Stange said. “If we get our team refreshed and recovered, why should we not do something against Australia?”
