Turner won’t bowl in India

-

A SHOULDER injury will prevent Ashton Turner from bowling in India, where the potential World Cup bolter is in line to make his ODI debut.

Off-spinning all-rounder Turner will be unable to roll his arm over during Australia’s upcoming limited-overs tour, which features two Twenty20s and five one-dayers.

The 26-year-old, one of a few Australians picked up in the recent Indian Premier League auction, has previously had three shoulder operations and may yet be booked in for more surgery this year.

But selectors are satisfied Turner’s work with the willow warranted inclusion in the Indian touring party named on Thursday, handing the gifted batsman an ideal chance to stake his claim for a spot in the World Cup squad.

“I’ve made myself available to play, albeit in a restricted capacity, but I feel I’m batting well enough to justify selection in these white-ball teams,” Turner told reporters in Perth.

“My shoulder, eventually I’m probably going to have to have something done. We’re going to sit down next week with some specialists, have the conversation and brainstorm the options.

“It’s a really weird one. It’s only at that extreme range of motion that I have any instability … It (bowling) is pretty much the only thing.”

Australia ODI squad: Aaron Finch (capt), Usman Khawaja, Shaun Marsh, Peter Handscomb, Glenn Maxwell, Ashton Turner, Marcus Stoinis, Alex Carey, Pat Cummins, Nathan CoulterNile, Jhye Richardson, Kane Richardson, Jason Behrendorff, Nathan Lyon, Adam Zampa, D’arcy Short* (*injury cover for Marsh)
