Isn’t the silence deafening from the CFMEU in regard to Labor’s stance on Adani. If the Coalition were creating so many road blocks for the mine to proceed the CFMEU would be on the front steps in Canberra with all their banners and rent a crowd going on about how the government doesn’t care about the workers. Hopefully some of the smarter rank and file are starting to see what Bill Shorten and his mob are actually about. Scott Annandale

Chris Wulguru totally agree Peta Credlin is the most intelligent politically knowledgeable woman in Australia. Enjoy watching her program. LW Bluewater

I see that the Qld Govt positions vacant advertisments are all limited tenure for up to 2 years - that’s when the election is due. I guess they are not expecting to win! POP Bushybch

Kerry from West End - I have no problem with wealthy retirees, I just think the rest of us shouldn’t be giving them handouts. B of Douglas - the wealthiest 20% of retirees own 86% of the shares. 75% of franking credits go to the top

10% income bracket. 70% of franking credits to self-managed super funds go to those with balances over $1.5 million. Steve, Belgian Gardens

Cannot help noticing media coverage of PM touring disaster areas of Townsville and Northwest Qld he is accompanied by the Whingeing Whining opposition leader instead of the elected Premier of Qld. When he visited Tasmania he was accompanied by the Tasmanian Premier and rightly so BUT when he comes to Qld he chooses the opposition leader. Talk about playing partisan politics with peoples misery. This LNP mob has got no principles John @ the Isa

Jeff txt 18/02/19 Another statistic for you (from Livecorp) Last year over a million cattle were exported live from Australia, including 257,513 from Townsville. While you may believe that cattle in Australian abattoirs get a quick humane death, ongoing reports of breaches of ESCAS guidelines in importing countries suggest this is far from the reality for many of these animals. Pre-slaughter stunning is not a mandatory requirement so many would have had their throats cut while fully conscious. Despite the horrific deaths of so many cattle on flooded properties and the difficulties being experienced by many graziers, live exporters are still sourcing cattle for export. On Saturday the Gloucester Express loaded with slaughter cattle left Townsville for Vietnam. Jenny Brown 4814

Can politicians legally make claims that at best are misleading, at worst simply not true? Monday morning Nathan St bridge COT’S truck spruiks Cathy O’toole jobs for T’ville. 3 minutes later Ross River Rd sign repeats same message. Given COT’S duplicity on Adani jobs for T’ville, could a used car salesman get away with this standard of advertising? Pedro Cranbrook

To the B of Douglas. Well done. Feel good about yourself? While you are technically correct, your also being a bit ignorant. While yes, its the consumers job to read their product disclosure statement, its also the insurance companys job to make sure there isnt ridiclous loopholes contained within. For example, covering storm but not flood. Especially when the flood was caused by the storm! Its the same event! Its like saying that you have wind cover but not cover from the damage that the chair caused when the cyclonic winsd hurtled it through your window. How about you show some compassion to the people who could likely lose their businesses and consequently everything else because of clever legal wording. Ted of Mount Louisa 4814

Rw@ld. I was 1yo, my 3 siblings 11, 13 & 14 when the 1 in a century 1946 flood drowned T’ville, they remember it well. Sth T’ville, Rly Estate, Oonoonba, H Park, Rosslea & Cluden were under water. Iidalia had R R Meatworks & scattered dwellings, opposite & west of Bowen Rd was scrub land to Mt Stuart, no Angus Smith Drive, no Annandale, no Nathan St bridge just a couple of homesteads & scattered dwellings. Up river in 1955 the bitumen ended at A/vale then gravel to Black weir. RW our population in 1946 would have been 30,000 tops, no dam to blame but with 6 times the population now we know local flooding drains quickly with intermittent rain. Over 1200mm here & half again in the dam catchment takes it’s toll & probably exceeded 46 but u know what was & not inundated then can i borrow your crystal ball? Enjoy your blame game but you weren’t the only one who suffered. WW. C/jong.

I nearly fell over laughing at Palmer’s waxing lyrical about the Titanic being “the ultimate love story.” Someone please break it to Clive that although the sinking itself was real, the tale of Jack and Rose is entirely imaginary - just like his notion of being able to fool the people of Townsville. Freddy G bushy beach

Disappointed whilst at the Toomulla boat ramp a local walking through the park suspiciously was seen removing the 7 pin tail light adaptor from my vehicle, leaving me with no taillights on trailer. The caravaners who saw you are curious if you are the same person who stole the fuel. Mark Kelso

JC. Idalia. There was no king tide & what the catchment area received dwafed ours, it’s a small shallow dam for crying out loud. First gates were opened friday afternoon, yeah let it fill & flow over the earth bank & wipe out Thuringowa too. Your cheap shot at Jenny Hill, “a mould spore” really? Carl. Pimlico.

Read the article about home care packages. The blow out of time is because, there are so many aged people needing assistance. Many aged people are getting only cleaning. Packages are split up so providers can give everyone in need at least some services at home. jazzminka 4815

Hear hear, Rob Mccahill (letters 16/2). The

Mayor has done the city proud in this disaster. David Donohue

Well said Alex@avale. Couldn’t believe when people knocked on my door last week to tell me a drop-in shelter is being built down our street. I’m gutted. AC, Elizabeth St

If Clive Palmer wants to make some tangible inroads to improving public opinion of himself by the residents of Townsville and surrounds, he could start by taking the millions he’s been spending on brain numbingly repetitive TV and radio advertising and redirect it to helping the many people who’ve been severely hit financially by the recent floods. It won’t totally make up for what happened to Qld Nickel employees, but it’d be a welcome start. Azza 4812

Townsville taxis you are hopeless! You are the only airport in Australia where flights land and there are rarely taxis waiting, it’s a joke and an embarrassment if It wasn’t employee policy to get a taxi it would be Uber every time. It’s 10:20 on a Sunday night and yes I’m in a queue at the airport with at least 30 other disgruntled people waiting for you to get your act together! Lyn 4818

Jackie contradiction stated that she was in Townsville to address flood recovery ?? , “page 12 Sat 16 -2-19“but contrary to that false &misleading statement she went on to an unbelievable tirade of over one thousand words defending the state Govt’s never ending diatribe against Adani’s coal mine , which will provide much needed employment for thousands of people in the region ,especially now that we have been devestated by the forces of nature but she was here to discuss flood recovery really? Well Miss Trad thanks for your obviously hidden, silent and sympathetic words on our recovery, wherever they were hidden, what we and Queensland need is Adani’s mine to pull us out of it. What we don’t need is overeducated buffoons that seem to abound in Govt and just ramble on with unbelievable verbal bovine excretion time and time again. An election looms. Beware. Girly.

Got to laugh at the union advertisement on tv about Morrison the same unions that has seen all Australian manufacturing going to China. Funny really and a joke. 4814

To TXT the Editor: One can only conclude from HSL’S txt in Saturday’s Bulletin that they are vegan, has no idea of what a food chain is, doesn’t appreciate our hunter gatherer origins, has never seen a wildlife doco and doesn’t appreciate the difference between the harsh realities of animal life versus our humane slaughtering procedures for farm animals, and finally has no concept of business enterprise which provides employment and taxes to pay for our way of life. How would HSL like it if their source of income dried up? Rgds Michael Mt Louisa 4814

Maybe the people who claimed the disaster money without any damage could go down to the disaster area and hand some of these people some cash. Keep half if you have to. Karma will arrive baby. Bill kirwan

“Slushies like crack cocaine”? Get real, Steven Miles. It’s not the manufacturer’s or retailer’s fault that people fill themselves with rubbish full of fats and sugars. Everyone is responsible for their own and their children’s diets. Even the intellectually challenged know that “fast food” is not to be consumed on a regular basis. “OMG, who’da known it had sugar in it?” excuse doesn’t cut it any more - people have to take charge of their own health and not blame others. Ags Hermit Pk

Back in the dome days of dry despair I did some crusty calculations on the dam catchment and capacity. My dodgy deliberation concluded if 30 ml over entire catchment to fill dam from empty. Food for thought on claims of mismanagement under the onslaught of up to 2000mm. Job well done I would say. Rob 4811

The irony of Clive Palmer proposing instigating class actions to ensure residents of Townsville receive due entitlements and redress would not be lost on the creditors of QNI. I hope he is not trying to make political points from the losses and misery of families who have suffered and lost so much from recent weather events. Dave Wulguru

?? ?? Jackie Trad’s visit clearly shows that the Qld Labor Govt has no interest at all in the future of the North & is actively working against us to prevent any employment recovery that would be a reality if the Adani mine went ahead. JH Mundingburra
