Assurance on Fardon

-

POLICE Commissioner Ian Stewart has reassured the community after people in the southern Brisbane suburb of Salisbury found out convicted sex offender Robert John Fardon was living nearby.

Fardon, one of Queensland’s worst sex offenders, raped a 12-year-old girl at gunpoint in 1978. He was released in 1988 after serving years in jail but then committed a violent rape of a woman within months. He was jailed for 14 years in 1989 for rape.

“Fardon is a person who attracts undue attention, if I can say that,” Mr Stewart said.

“So wherever he’s staying, and I’m not going to confirm or otherwise where he is, but wherever he is I can assure you that we’re aware of it … and we will do everything we can to keep the community safe.”
