City deli’s closure draws tributes

-

A POPULAR Townsville delicatessen closed its doors for the last time.

The owners of Christo’s Deli at The Precinct announced the closure of their Idalia store on Monday.

“This is Papa Christo signing off for the last time,” the Facebook post said.

“We were looking at all avenues and options to continue our local family business but alas today we returned the keys to the landlord, to allow them to renew The Precinct.”

The deli sold cured meats, hams, salamis, cheese, pasta, sauces, olives, oils and imported chocolates.

Dozens of loyal customers responded to the news, praising the deli and thanking the owners for their services.

The deli owners posted some of the store’s lines may still be available in the region, although a trip to Ayr or Ingham may be needed. has
