ALISON VIES FOR LEGAL AWARD

- EVAN MORGAN

TOWNSVILLE lawyer Alison Ryder is one of six finalists for the Queensland Law Society’s prestigious Agnes Mcwhinney Award.

The annual award is named after Queensland’s first admitted female solicitor and recognises outstanding professional or community contribution by a female lawyer and the significant involvement of women in the legal profession and the community.

Ms Ryder has more than 25 years in the legal profession working in both criminal law and family law before specialising in insurance litigation and has worked in Sydney and Brisbane.

She moved to Townsville last August and established her own law firm, Ryder Legal.

Ms Ryder said she was humbled to be to be nominated for the award.

“It’s humbling, particularly when you see the past winners but even to be nominated as a finalist is humbling and also thrilling,” she said.

Ms Ryder said she always wanted to live in Townsville and had been coming to the city for holidays for 20 years before making the permanent move.

“I love Townsville and it has been a longterm dream to live here because of the climate and the people.”

The winner will be announced tonight as part of the QLS Legal Professional Dinner and Awards at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre.
