Unlucky break for Sofi singer

- JULIA BRADLEY

PERFORMER Sophie Hawley-weld from the American musical duo Sofi Tukker broke her foot on stage during the pair’s Groovin the Moo set in Townsville.

Tucker Halpern took to the group’s Instagram page following their performance, to break the news to fans.

“… we just played one of the Groovin the Moo shows and Sofi tripped on stage and broke her foot,” he said.

“She tripped during Mi Rumba coming off one of the rises. I thought she was just kind of shook and maybe a little embarrassed and so we kept going. She sang the entire of Best Friend, but I could tell something was up because she wasn’t moving much but she did it.”

Halpern said his musical partner was playing guitar and singing fine but ended up sitting down on the stairs.

“She started crying and broke down and we realised it was really bad,” he said.

Hawley-weld was quickly ushered into an ambulance after the set and taken to Townsville Hospital.

Hawley-weld also shared a post on the page, thanking Townsville fans for their support.

“I don’t have all the details and information I need yet about what exactly this means but what I do know is that a). I have the best mate in the entire world. Tucker, I love you. b). I am so grateful for everybody in Townsville for sticking with us and giving us such good positive energy,” she said.

“I couldn’t help but smile and just feel happy to be there, even while I was in shock.”
