Police operation’s big yield

MORE than a dozen people were charged with 34 offences following a major drug and traffic police operation code named Operation Haydos.

On the first day of the operation on June 13, police held 192 random breath tests and 11 roadside drug tests with three drivers testing positive for methylamph­etamine (ice) and cannabis.

Two Ingham men, 25 and 27, are due to appear in the Ingham Magistrate­s Court on July 11 to face charges of driving with drugs present in blood. Officers also issued two traffic infringeme­nt notices for defective vehicles, failing to display P-plates and speeding.

On the second day, on June 28, police executed 12 search warrants in the Ingham area with police arresting 12 people on 31 charges.

Police will allege they discovered about $36,000 in drugs, including cannabis leaves, seeds and resin, utensils, a hydroponic cannabis crop with 15 plants, ice, pharmaceut­ical drugs and two knuckle dusters.

A Forrest Beach man, 57, was charged with producing and possessing cannabis, possession of drug utensils and possession of property suspected of having been used in connection with an offence under the Drugs Misuse Act after police executed a warrant at a Wattle St property.

He is due to appear in the Ingham Magistrate­s Court on July 25.

An Ingham man, 24, and Ingham woman, 29, were charged with possession of ice after police searched a Perkins St home.

A search of another Wattle St residence resulted in a youth, 18, being charged with possessing ecstasy and cannabis, and possession of a drug utensil.
