Burglary left scars
A DOUGLAS man says he feels “invaded” after a someone broke into his family home and rummaged through his wife’s underwear drawer, hunting for valuables.
Graham, 58, and Shelly Lynham, 51, live in Douglas and own a real estate business in Kirwan.
Ms Lynham said she was still “mentally, emotionally and financially” destroyed by a breakin that happened in April.
She said someone smashed her front window in broad daylight, making off with bags full of money and personal belongings.
“They took a new iphone, a drone we use for work, they’ve taken cash and foreign money I hide in my drawers, alcohol, headphones, speakers, a TAG watch that I bought my husband,” he said.
“They took about $1500 worth of stuff out of my house.
“Graham has a love for cameras, we had two boxes worth of camera gear, lenses and stuff, unopened,” Ms Lynham said.
“They’ve taken the drone, three batteries and left the remote and charger, it’s hopeless, no one can use it.”
The couple weren’t home at the time of the incident but Ms Lynham credits her mower man for giving police a lead in their investigations. The mower man was working on the property the morning of the break-in and reported a suspicious-looking white dual-cab ute parked outside their home.
Mr Lynham said his wife had been “a wreck” since the break-in.
“They went through her underwear drawer, she feels violated,” he said.
“It’s out of control in this town, I think they (politicians) are detached. North Queensland is very much forgotten about.
“I’m sure in southeast Queensland your voice would be heard a lot clearer.”
A 17-year-old Bluewater Park boy has been charged in relation to the matter with burglary and commit indictable offence. He will be dealt with under the provisions of the Youth Justice Act.
