Kahu may switch codes to play rugby

-

The arrival of Scott Drinkwater signalled the end of his days wearing the number one jersey.

Kahu has also faced time on the sidelines, most recently for surgery on a broken eye-socket, which the backline utility suggested was the “story of my career”.

The Kiwi international has faced injury hurdle after injury hurdle since making his debut in the NRL in 2013, but it is something he believes has only made him stronger.

“I think that’s the story of my career so far. I am getting that confidence back finally and then something sets me back.

“I think that is also what has built my character and built me into the person I am today,” he said.

“I am just glad I can show people, no matter what they face in life, they can overcome it.

“Hopefully people look at my career and take that from it.”

Kahu will make his return for the Cowboys on the wing against the Knights on Saturday, four weeks after his successful surgery.

While the Cowboys finals hopes might have been dusted last week, Kahu will still have plenty to play for with his future up in the air.

He confirmed he is in talks with several options, with a code switch to his favoured rugby union certainly not off the cards.

Kahu also confirmed the Cowboys were one of the parties he had been speaking to but his there was no certainty over his future in the North.

“We will see what happens,” he said.

“Although I have had numerous setbacks, I think my body is still in a position where I can still play at the top level, and I can still add to the team.

“(Union) has always been an option, I am a union boy since I was a young boy.

“I have always wanted to go and have a crack at that, but if it doesn’t come I will just have to play park footy at home.

“(I’m) not really (decided yet).

“It is August already and I wish that would have probably been locked in already.

“I am not too sure where I am heading so far.”
