Poolworks to deliver jobs splash

-

MORE than 140 jobs are expected to be generated when work starts on the redevelopment of the Tobruk Memorial Baths on The Strand.

Local contractor Jackson and Semler won the contract and is expected to start work in early September.

Townsville Deputy Mayor Les Walker said awarding the construction tender to a local company helped ensure profits remained in the city.

“Jackson and Semler is a reputable company in the construction industry who have worked on some of Townsville’s biggest infrastructure projects recently, like the Local Disaster Co-ordination Centre and the North Queensland Stadium,” Cr Walker said.

“Council is committed to investing ratepayers’ money back into the pockets of Townsville locals while delivering first-class infrastructure projects right across the city.

“This $11.3 million redevelopment is part of council’s $409.1 million infrastructure spend and capital investment in the 2019-20 Budget.”

Local councillor AnnMaree Greaney said she was excited at progress made on the Tobruk Memorial Baths.

“We will start to see some really great changes as the redevelopment takes shape,” Cr Greaney said.
