Will LNP keep its promise?

-

IN A recent letter, Frank Beveridge, the LNP candidate in the federal election for the seat of Kennedy, under the heading “Katter party fails to deliver on promises” has the cheek to criticise Nick Dametto for failing to deliver on election promises.

During the federal election, Frank made a very clear commitment – on behalf of his party, that if the Coalition Government was returned to office, (not if he was elected) then the Federal Government would provide up to $1.5 million towards the dredging of One Mile Creek canal and channel, near Cardwell.

After the election, the Federal Government would not confirm that it would honour the commitment.

Bob Katter and Nick Dametto arranged a meeting with the Deputy Prime Minister in Canberra, at which he refused to confirm that the Federal Government would honour the relatively small $1.5 million commitment, but he said he would consider it.

The Innisfail Advocate has recently reported Mr Mccormack as saying that the election commitment was made and that the Federal Government would honour its commitments. He further said that he would have more to say in coming weeks.

The people of Cardwell, in the Kennedy electorate, are waiting to hear that the money is there.

If this happens, then no doubt Mr. Beveridge will be thanked by the people of Cardwell for starting the ball rolling on the dredging funding.

If not, the LNP should think seriously about whether or not it is worth its expense in standing a candidate for the state seat of Hinchinbrook next year, or for that matter, a candidate for the federal seat of Kennedy in less than three years.
