Give us a break at dump

I READ with interest the article ( TB, 13/8) that the Townsville City Council and State Government are teaming up to crack down on illegal dumping.

While I abhor illegal dumping, perhaps a better solution would be to make legal dumping more cost-effective?

As someone whose home was flooded in February, it galls me that I spent six days helping the council by cleaning up the flood debris in my street, but am now still paying every time I take a trailer load of my own flood rubbish to the dump – and we even had a cost increase in July! I’ve paid for five trailer loads so far and plenty more to go.

I know it costs money to run dumps, but anything that can be done to make them more efficient will reduce the incentive on illegal dumping.
