Teachers planning to deliver big lesson

- MATTHEW ELKERTON

THEY have been the dominant force of the Townsville District Rugby Union women’s competition this season, and now Teachers West will be looking to its “perfect mix” of youth and experience to lead the side to grand final glory.

Townsville rugby veteran Kristy Bolton has been the Teachers talisman this season, and will again conduct the side on the field as they aim up against a willing University outfit.

They play with plenty of width and a style that has stretched their opposition sides past breaking point.

While he will not be on the sidelines for the clash due to work commitments, Teachers coach Leigh Brining has every faith in his side to maintain their unbeaten form.

“Bloody oath I think we’re a chance,” he said. “The style of rugby the girls have been playing this season is different to the rest of the competition.

“It is more of a Rugby 10s style that allows us to move the ball around the park with a lot more freedom.

“Kristy will lead from the front. She is our captain, and our most experienced player. But we have that perfect mix of youth and experience.”

While Teachers have been a runaway train this season, it has not dented the confidence of a hungry University side.

And they are leaving no stone unturned under the guidance of coach Campbell Yates. The University girls have held three training sessions this week in the lead up to today’s decider, and frontrower Ora Mihaere said the side was ready for action.

“We’re pretty excited. I don’t even think that the nerves are hitting just yet,” she said.
