Jethawks keen to topple Avengers
IT WILL a mound battle to salivate over and it will go a long way to deciding who is first through to the Baseball Association Townsville grand final as Avengers go head-tohead with Jethawks.
Former Queensland representative pitcher left-hander Gaje Mccahon will lead the way for the Jethawks as they aim to topple the defending premiers at Jabiru Park in Condon.
But standing in his way will be his opposite pitcher Matt Baldwin, whose consistency at the mound has been a driving force behind Avengers narrow minor premiership victory.
In what has been one of the tightest editions of the BAT season in recent memory, only a game-and-a-half separated first from fourth in the race to the finals.
The last time Avengers and Jethawks faced off during the regular season both sides were held scoreless through five innings before a late slip up delivered Avengers the win.
That is why the pitching battle will go a long way to determining the winner tomorrow, according to BAT president Daniel White.
“Both pitchers work well by getting ahead in the count early and then have a few change-up options in their arsenal to put the batter away,” he said.
“They are the top two pitchers in the competition, so it will be really great battle on the mound.
“When it comes down to it any run is critical; it will change the dynamic of the game.”
Pirates and Mustangs will play off in the elimination final at 10.30am before the major semi-final takes to the diamond.
