SISTERS EXCITED HOLIDAYS OVER

- ELISABETH SILVESTER

TOWNSVILLE sisters Lucy and Mia Mclennan are raring to start the new school year together.

The sisters are part of the record breaking 856,500 kids who are enrolled from Prep through to Year 12 in Queensland in 2020.

Lucy and Mia are enrolled at St Joseph’s Catholic School The Strand with Lucy starting Prep while her older sister will begin Year 1 today.

The sisters’ mum, Chelsea Mclennan said she was proud to see Lucy transition from kindergarten to Prep.

“The big thing with Lucy is we have been saying she is a big girl now and it is all about growing up and she is confident and social and I know she will do well at school,” she said.

Queensland schools will welcome 65,800 Prep students in 2020. Ms Mclennan said she had been busy preparing for Lucy to start Prep during the holiday break.

“The girls have a new lunch box and new drink bottle and they get really excited about things like that and I think it helps with the hype of school,” she said.

“We have been using Lucy’s lunch box during the school holidays so she learns how to open it.”

Lucy said she was looking forward to attending “big girl school”. “I am excited to start Prep to make new school friends,” she said.

Mia said she was not scared to officially be a primary school student. “I am happy I am going back to school and I am so excited to get my own desk,” she said.

The sisters’ father, Ross Mclennan, said the girls couldn’t stop talking about starting school.

“They are pretty excited because they have their uniforms and Lucy has Mia’s teacher from last year so she is very happy about that,” he said.

“They miss the structure and balance of school on the holidays,” she said.
