LNP man tells of ‘passion’ Piper shares priorities

- CAITLAN CHARLES

HE MIGHT have mowed your lawn or served you in the corner shop, but now Scott Piper wants to represent you in state government.

Yesterday, the Liberal National Party formally announced the Bushland Beach businessman would run for the Hinchinbrook electorate.

Mr Piper said one of his main focuses would be to “deliver for Hinchinbrook” and help the region emerge from the coronavirus pandemic.

Mr Piper will take on incumbent, Katter’s Australian Party member Nick Dametto.

He said the cost of living, job security and crime needed to be addressed in the region.

“As a small business owner I am very passionate about addressing the issues we are facing,” he said.

“Every mum and dad, every small business owner is going through what I am going through right now.

“Everyone talks about someone needs to do something, someone needs to make a change. I am that someone.

“I want to be that voice and make sure our people are heard.”

Mr Piper’s family moved to Townsville about 35 years ago and he has lived on the northern beaches for 27 years.

Mr Piper, who runs Piper Promotions with his partner Kate Herron and used to mow lawns and work at the corner store, said his whole family lived in Bushland Beach.

Having worked in IT for most of his life and being heavily involved in gyms, Mr Piper said he had broken the stereotype.

“I’m passionate about my region, my families and my values,” he said.

“We’re a very close-knit family unit and we love to live the northern beaches way.”

Burdekin MP Dale Last said Hinchinbrook residents would be seeing a lot of Mr Piper in the next six months.

“As a business owner, Scott really understands what is going on at the moment on the back of this pandemic,” Mr Last said.

The Shadow Minister for North Queensland said Mr Piper would bring passion and experience to the role.

LNP leader Deb Frecklington said Mr Piper was squarely focused on building a strong local economy.

“More now than ever, the people of Hinchinbrook need the LNP’S economic plan to get Queensland working again,” she said.

The LNP has now announced candidates in Townsville, John Hathaway, and Mundingburra, Glenn Doyle.
