Memories flow for Grammar stalwart

- KEAGAN ELDER

TRIBUTES are flowing for a former deputy headmaster and rugby coach of one of Townsville’s most prestigious schools.

William “Bill” Muller recently died, leaving many Townsville Grammar School teachers and former students saddened.

Mr Muller started his career at the school in 1980 as deputy headmaster, working his way into the hearts of the school’s community, the school posted in a tribute on Facebook.

He worked at the school for more than 30 years as acting headmaster, deputy headmaster, teacher and rugby coach.

“The hallmark of Bill was his devotion to the many students in his care, and his ability to find the best in every single one of them,” the tribute read.

He left a lasting impact on many students over the years.

“There will never be anyone quite like Mr Muller. It was a pleasure knowing you and for giving me the fond memories as my teacher, rugby coach and many more memories of our TGS rugby tours,” Kirkman James said.

“Very saddened to hear about this. He would have had in impact on thousands of students, myself included,” Simon Holmes-evans said.

Mr Muller retired in 1998 but remained involved with Townsville Grammar and became the school’s first archivist.

“His many articles chronicled as ‘ From the Archives’ as well as the publications providing information on past Grammarians’ wartime service are a tribute to his skills,” the school’s tribute read.
