Fire coach dissecting campaign

- MATTHEW ELKERTON

FORGET Netflix,

Seebohm has all footage he needs lockdown.

The Fire coach has started up his own home schooling, poring over hours of footage from the club’s disappointing 2019/20 WNBL season.

Seebohm has analysed the team’s performance from every angle as he searches for the key to unlocking the side’s premiership potential.

But with the WNBL stuck in a COVID-19 limbo and no firm indication on when the season will start, it has become a waiting game for the Fire coach.

“I have been doing a lot of work at home, unfortunately there is not much else that I can be doing,” he said.

“It sort of sucked being in isolation and not getting on a basketball court. But I have been able to watch a ton of game footage.

“I am constantly looking to improve, see how last season played out and where we could have been better.”

The Fire have plenty of areas to improve after finishing with a 5-16 record last season.

But with a clean slate on the roster front – with only Kate Gaze and Zitina Aokuso locked in to return next season – there is plenty of potential for the northern outfit.

The coach has set his sights on a few recruitment targets for when the WNBL free agency kicks off, but he is playing his cards close to his chest.

But the one thing he is certain of is his decision won’t be based solely off the stat sheets.

“Bringing in the great players is good, but it needs to be about getting the right type of character and the right work ethic. They need to fit in to what we are trying to build here.”
