SISTER ACT TO LIFT WARRIORS
A NEW era is upon Townsville Warriors Football Club with the unveiling of their first female premier league coach.
Deni Caspanello made the switch from Burdekin to lead the Warriors’ women’s side for the 2020 season, bringing with her a plenty of experience and wisdom from the game’s best.
Caspanello will be joined in the green and white by her sisters Rylee and Elly.
Having learned from North Queenslandl great Catherine Roncato, Craig Perfect and Angelo Licciardello, Caspanello hoped that influence will be a point of difference heading into a rejigged 2020 season.
“Communication is a key thing I’ve learned from all coaches. How they all control the game, are calm, know all positions and are all very skilled at it,” she said. “I’m just bringing experience, knowledge and enthusiasm to the new club. It’s a fresh start, we have good team spirit and I’m just excited to try new things.”
The Townsville season is set to begin the week of July 10 once the State Government’s COVID-19 guidelines enable them to take to the pitch.
While less rounds will be played, Caspanello said this could play into her side’s hands. With a host of young, energetic and talented players at her disposal, the incoming coach believes they will be in a strong position to strike early.
She said the lessons she had taken from all past coaches would enable her to be in the moment on game day and that could in turn be instilled into the playing group.
“I have my coaching certificates up to scratch, I’ll be bringing positivity and having a lot of confident reinforcements. We work off each other, we have a good quality bunch of players so it won’t be that hard to get started.” Caspanello said.
“Being a shorter season is better, we just go in and get it done. Warriors committee, led by president Brett Ramsbotham is in full support of women’s football.”
