Police nab six drink drivers in a fortnight
A MAN who allegedly drove almost four times over the legal limit on the Bruce Highway between Ingham and Townsville is among six drivers charged with drink driving in the Hinchinbrook Shire in just two weeks.
Senior Sergeant Geoff Bormann said an Ingham man recorded a blood-alcohol reading of 0.078, above the 0.05 legal limit, after his Toyota Hilux ute was pulled over on Fairford Rd at 6.25pm on Friday, June 19.
The 28-year-old was bailed to appear in the Ingham Magistrates Court on July 9.
The officer-in-charge of Ingham Police said the following Sunday, at 2am, an Innisfail woman, 36, driving a blue Saab on a disqualified or restricted licence, was stopped in Toobanna on the Bruce Highway and recorded 0.075, above the 0.0 requirement.
She was bailed to appear in the Innisfail Magistrates Court.
In Trebonne, not far from the scene of the fatal accident involving Abergowrie College staff member Emmanuel Torres Weka, a local man, 30, was charged with riding an unregistered and uninsured Honda motorcycle on a disqualified or restricted licence while under the influence of alcohol on Saturday.
The man, who allegedly recorded 0.142, will appear in the Ingham Magistrates Court on August 6.
In the highest recording, a 24-year-old Toobanna man driving a Mazda Bravo allegedly blew 0.191 not far from his home at 5.30pm on Saturday and will also appear on August 6.
In a third alleged drinkdriving incident in Toobanna, also on Saturday, a Cardwell man, 61, has been bailed to appear in Ingham on August 6 after he recorded 0.129 after he was stopped in an orange Kubota.
In the most recent case, an unlicensed 24-year-old woman from Douglas, Townsville, recorded 0.021 when police intercepted her Mitsubishi Lancer at 4.45am on Tuesday.
