Caravan Hub gets green light

- TONY RAGGATT

THE road ahead looks long and wide for a Townsville business primed to ride a boom in the use of caravans and recreational vehicles.

The Caravan Hub, previously the Townsville Caravan Repair Centre, has leased a large industrial facility in Currajong previously occupied by the Hinspeter Cranes group.

Townsville agency Colliers International negotiated the deal.

The Caravan Hub’s managing director, Josh Mullock, said securing the site had been a huge step forward for a business which had moved three times due to exponential growth.

Now with the COVID-19 pandemic causing people to holiday at home and the Caravan Hub looking to use its market advantages in repair and sales, the business is well positioned.

“The team at the Caravan Hub are highly skilled technicians with long experience in caravan repairs,” Mr Mullock said.

“But they’re also open to change and improvement and have a strong work ethic and take tremendous pride in their workmanship.”

The repair business was launched in 2014 and it remains the cornerstone of its operations.

Mr Mullock said the larger site had provided them with multiple bays for workshops and the room needed to conduct their own sheet metal work for caravan cladding.

“We have capacity to produce the vast majority of the componentry we need in-house, using specialist machinery that allows us to cut the lead times involved when you rely on subletting,” he said.

But the larger site has also allowed them to expand into used caravan sales.

They have more than 25 on display. Mr Mullock said sales had exploded since the lifting of restrictions.

“Caravanning represents the ultimate in safe social distancing and gives you total control of your own travel arrangements,” Mr Mullock said.

“You decide when to leave, where to go and how long to stay.”

Mr Mullock said their sales centre focused on used vehicles, providing an advantage of having stock that was deliverable immediately but they were considering an expansion into new sales.

He said they took a strong educational approach with their customers, helping them to understand maintenance requirements which were sometimes overlooked.
