Venture weighs up quick success Raising the fitness bar

- ELISABETH SILVESTER

A BACKYARD pipedream has accidentally turned into an overnight online sensation accelerated by COVID-19 restrictions.

Dennis Piva started online TFP Fitness Equipment only last month, but has seen some of his stock sell out.

Apart from offering the usual wholesale fitness equipment such as bars, weights, mats and plyo boxes, the business offers unique backyard rigs.

Mr Piva is a boilermaker by trade. Orders started to roll in for the fitness equipment he made in his spare time at home.

“This business originated from me building my own backyard rig and then two friends asking for a pull-up bar and a squat rack,” he said. “Then word of mouth spread around Townsville of our locally made products.”

Within the first three weeks, the business saw 100 online orders. Mr Piva said that the development of the company was about servicing a region that had been forgotten.

“My business partner and I found that there was a demand within north Queensland because there is no wholesaler of fitness equipment above Brisbane,” he said.

“Capital cities are looked after, but no one looks up towards the north and we know that we will be saving locals money on delivery fees.

“Now I guess with COVID, it has opened a position in the market where there can be a supplier in the north,” he said. Mr Piva said the demand had been diverse.

“We facilitate home fitness where people can work out in the privacy of their home or groups at home or towards a gym type set up,” he said.

“We have seen personal sales to supplying gyms and personal trainers.”

The sky is the limit for Mr Piva, who is hoping to open a warehouse in Townsville in the future.

“We want to be a mid-tier gym supplier within the Australian market and further develop on our Australian made products,” he said.

“Townsville has been undervalued in terms of economic potential and ingenuity.”

A NEW Townsville business is helping locals get a good night’s sleep thanks to their tailored security solutions.

KAM Security Solutions general manager Jamie Dennis said the business offered more than just security solutions, it is also offered peace of mind.

The locally owned and operated business offers both physical and electronic security.

“Given the amount of car theft and property crime Townsville has experienced there is a definite need for a company such as ours to provide solutions to help prevent these types of crimes happening and to also give peace of mind and feel safe in your own home,” Mr Dennis said.

The company’s main focus is on residential security but the team, which boasts more than 15 years experience, is well equipped to handle the commercial market as well.

“Our technicians pride themselves on quality workmanship and only use quality products,” he said.

“We’re Townsville locals who understand the circumstances homeowners and business owners are facing.

“While there is more positive experiences in the North than there are bad ones, it pays to be prepared and where KAM Security tions comes in.

“We offer services in security screens for windows and doors, locks, security gates, upgrading doors, CCTV, alarm systems, keyless entry just to that’s Soluname a few.”

He said many of their clients had already experienced crime.

“Most commonly it’s the fear of an intruder gaining access while they are asleep, taking keys to cars etc, but also personal belongings, often we visit clients who have already had this happen to them unfortunately,” Mr Dennis said.

“We take a holistic approach to home and business security, with our main goal to obviously prevent them from even being able to gain access to your home or business in the first place.

“We do this by completing a thorough site check of things such as doors, windows, locks, gates etc.

“Our point of difference is we can upgrade/install all of these in house but we also offer electronic security solutions such as alarm and CCTV systems, keyless entry systems using Bluetooth to offer real piece of mind and convenience.

“We understand people are concerned about their home and business security in Townsville, but there is always the cost factor.

“While our prices are more than competitive we also offer interest free payment options to help secure your home and business.”

KAM Security Solutions also offers a free 10 Point Security Check and can visit your home or business and make relevant recommendations to suit your business or family needs.

To celebrate the start of the new financial year, KAM Security Solutions is offering a special deal for clients – four x 5MP CCTV cameras, 4 channel NVR free app to view remotely for $1699 ex GST for a standard home/small business installation. They also offer back to base alarm monitoring for businesses at an extremely competitive rate.
