WE’LL STILL HAVE WHALE OF A TIME

- SAM FLANAGAN

A WINTER favourite of Townsville residents and tourists is getting ready to hit the water, and it hasn’t taken long for tickets to disappear.

Sealink’s 2020 Whale Watching Tours will take off from July 25, with the company announcing the season is already a sellout.

“We were expecting strong interest so we got people to sign up to a wait list,” Sealink North Queensland general manager Chris Briggs said.

“We offered those people tickets first and put the rest on sale to the general public.

“They’ve now been snapped up as well.”

Due to restrictions still in place because of COVID-19, the threehour tour experience will run with significantly reduced numbers to previous seasons and will introduce measures to ensure the crew and guests are safe.

This year is expected to be another bumper season for whale watching as the waters of Magnetic

Island and The Palm Island Group are coming alive with the annual migration of humpback whales.

“There’s good numbers coming up through the Whitsundays at the moment so we’re expecting a really good season,” Mr Briggs said.

He also announced a welcome surprise for those keen to catch a glimpse of the majestic mammal.

“We’re going to be releasing extra tickets on select dates and I’d say they’ll be gone as soon as they go up,” Mr Briggs said.

“So keep an eye on our Facebook page and website to make sure you don’t miss out.”

Sealink’s tours will run Saturday and Sunday mornings from July 25 to August 23.
