FANS TURN ON COWBOYS

- NICK WRIGHT

Their left-edge defence is atrocious

FANS have blasted the Cowboys after another dismal performance from the North Queensland outfit, with calls for change in both the team and coaching staff growing louder.

Supporters took to social media to vent about the lack of answers their side is offering in the face of a worrying trend where the team seem to switch off and fail to commit in key moments.

Those themes were on full display as the Sydney Roosters ran rampant in Thursday night’s second half at Queensland Country Bank Stadium to charge home in a 42-16 demolition.

Some of the frustrations were directed at coach Paul Green, who cut a frustrated figure after his side conceded more than 40 points for the second time in two weeks.

“Same garbage different day. Green has lost the dressing sheds. He has no answers,” John Savage posted. “He has failed to develop the talent that the club has. Players invariably excel when they go to another club. Why hasn’t those in charge done anything about it?”

“I think Green has run his course. A new coach with a new vision, direction and someone who can tap the potential of these young fellas,” James Hincks followed.

“The talent is there and will go if not happy. There was no cohesion in attack and no desperation or use of shoulders in defence.”

However many reserved their outrage for the playing group, which has only been consistent at being inconsistent in 2020.

Even club legend Johnathan Thurston slammed his beloved side, labelling it left-edge defence as “atrocious”.

“Greeny didn’t miss tackles around the ruck, Greeny didn’t drop the ball three times on the opposition line, Greeny didn’t let in five tries on the left … so much a coach can do,” Paul Gebran commented.

“For the first 35 minutes Cowboys were good, unfortunately the game goes for 80.”

“Changing coach is not the answer here. We have good and capable players (paid good money),” Olive Trinidad said.

“No matter how strategic and best coach you put in there, if the players (don’t) do their job … it’s NOTHING.

“If you work in (the) best company, best boss, but if the employees are lazy, can’t execute their jobs … company will go down the hill. You know your POSITION (on) the field then do your JOB.”
