Man ‘made death threats to colleagues’
A MAN has cried when granted bail after multiple alleged angry outbursts.
Johnathon Paul Shepherd, 42, was arrested after two incidents in May and June this year.
Shepherd is facing five charges, including commit public nuisance, going armed so as to cause fear and common assault.
The Townsville Magistrates Court heard that Shepherd was at a Dan Murphy’s store and was allegedly confronted in front of his children by two men at the store.
On June 1 this year, the court heard Shepherd allegedly made threats to murder a man at a set of traffic lights.
Police prosecutor Senior Sergeant Felicity Nalder told the court that Shepherd was in a “show cause” position and bail was opposed.
“The alleged actions of the defendant is worrisome,” Senior Sergeant Nalder said.
“His angry outbursts on both of those occasions was concerning given there are two separate instances alleged.”
Defence solicitor Andrew Peel told the court Shepherd had sustained a crushing injury to his hand at work and was currently going through a Work Cover application.
“He has made an application for compensation that resulted in him being dismissed by the company and he has been receiving threats from his previous employer to discontinue the Work Cover action,” Mr Peel said.
Mr Peel said the other men involved were supervisors and managers of his previous place of employment.
“The anger and frustration with which my client was reacting when standing by the gentleman at the roadworks or meeting the other two gentlemen at Dan Murphy’s was coincidental conduct,” Mr Peel said.
Magistrate Viviana Keegan granted Shepherd bail.
