Everyone’s a winner as Tigers play for rivals
HERMIT Park junior coach Tommy could not be prouder of his charges.
And it has nothing to do with their performances on the field.
It is the spirit and pride that they bring to every game.
The Tigers under-15s outfit has made a habit of sharing players to help strengthen their opposition clubs. But it is not just any players who go across.
Ruff
Ruff and co-coach Robbie Bethune go through and split up all the match-ups across the park to keep it even for both sides.
For the Tigers coaches, it is about keeping the league competitive and Ruff is yet to have a player complain about pulling on another club’s strip.
“Because we have been focused on development, our guys have gotten on board and I think a few of them even loved it,” he said.
“We have been honest with all the players about why we are doing it, and they have gotten on board and the parents are on board. I couldn’t be prouder of them.”
The Tigers have been back on-field for two weeks since the Covid-19-enforced season shutdown, and the players have embraced the opportunity to show their talents on the field.
“Everybody who loves football just wants the opportunity to go out and play,” Ruff said. “The kids are enjoying it, and watching the kids enjoy it has made me enjoy it even more.”
