Changes at top in council

- TRUDY BROWN

TWO senior staff at Charters Towers Regional Council have resigned suddenly this week, reducing the executive leadership team to one.

Council CEO Aaron Johansson yesterday confirmed infrastructure services director Cameron Scott and corporate and community services director Marnie Taylor resigned on Monday, effective immediately.

The Townsville Bulletin understands their contracts were up for renewal soon.

Mr Scott and Mrs Taylor were part of the three-member executive leadership team with the CEO.

Mr Johansson informed council staff a decision had been made not to renew the contracts of the directors and both had chosen to resign, effective immediately.

“I take this opportunity to thank Cameron for his significant contribution to Charters Towers Regional Council and the Charters Towers City Council before that,” he said.

“Cameron has been an integral part of the journey of our organisation to date, and I acknowledge his service to both our organisation and our community.”

Mr Johansson said Mrs Taylor left behind a legacy of hard work and dedication.

“I would like to acknowledge her considerable efforts towards the progress and betterment of Charters Towers Regional Council, and further acknowledge her achievements during her time with the Dalrymple Shire Council preamalgamation,” he said.

“On behalf of council I wish Marnie well as she commences a new chapter in her life.”

Mrs Taylor and Mr Scott were appointed to the positions of utilities and facilities director and roads infrastructure director respectively in 2013.

Since then council has dropped two director positions and restructured the executive leadership team.

Mr Johansson said the resignations did not indicate there was a hidden agenda in relation to senior management roles across the organisation.

He said John Teague would serve in the role of acting infrastructure services director, while Mr Johansson would undertake the corporate and community services duties until replacements were found.
