Family shaken after car crashes through front yard

-

A TOWNSVILLE family was left “shaken” after a car ploughed through their property early yesterday.

The Vincent family was woken just after 3.45am after a vehicle went through their front fence and garden bed.

A tree in the garden slowed the vehicle, saving the Tregaskis Street home from damage.

The homeowner, who wanted to remain anonymous, said the experience was traumatic.

“I was woken to a very loud, gut-wrenching sound,” she said. “We ran downstairs ... we saw a lady who had hit our front fence. If the tree wasn’t there who knows what she would have hit.”

The women said her two children, aged seven and eight, were scared by the incident.

“They were extremely shaken by it and we had to get them out of the situation,” she said. “We had two dogs we’ve also had to remove for the time being.”

The woman praised emergency services and their swift work. “We had three police cars, two fire trucks and one ambulance here,” she said.

“They were pretty shocked with the lady and how she was and where she was.

“They were shocked to see the extent of the damage.

“They dealt with it very well; they were in and out in under an hour.”

The female driver suffered a head injury in the crash and was taken Townsville University Hospital in a serious but stable condition.

A Queensland Police Service spokesman confirmed she had blood taken for a blood-alcohol level test.

A male passenger in the vehicle was taken to hospital in a stable condition.
