Builder takes top award

CAIRNS builder Eastbuild Designer Homes has taken out the North Queensland Home of the Year award at the Housing Industry Associatio­n’s 2020 awards.

The North Queensland HIA – CSR Housing, Kitchen & Bathroom Awards have a reputation for displaying the very best in tropical housing.

The tradition continued in 2020 with more than 180 members from T o w n s v i l l e , Mackay and Cairns gathering at The Ville Resort-casino on Saturday for the awards.

The winning home by Eastbuild Designer Homes also took out the Custom Built Home category, after earlier winning the Custom Built and Home of the Year at the Cairns awards.

Judges said the home had outstandin­g visual appeal with high quality workmanshi­p.

The complex and sophistica­ted two-storey luxury home was built on a sloping block on a former golf course.

Eastbuild Designer Homes also secured Bathroom of the Year for this project.

Townsville’s David Moore Cabinetmak­ing won Kitchen of the Year with a modern project in Hermit Park.

The judges were impressed with the high quality of workmanshi­p and how the cabinetmak­er designed a kitchen that works beautifull­y with the choice in materials.

New Home Solutions Qld won the North Queensland Profession­al Small Builder/ Renovator award.

The judges congratula­ted New Home Solutions for its strong team ethos and focus on customers.

The Apprentice of the Year was awarded to Lachlan Royce ( pictured), a fourth year carpentry apprentice with John Munro Builders in Townsville.
