FATDOGZ BARKS UP A NEW TREE

- SAM FLANAGAN

A POPULAR Townsville cafe has spread its wings and opened up a second store in welcome news for foodies.

Fatdogz Cafe was born in Cannon Park over six years ago and quickly became a favourite among residents in the Thuringowa region.

Now the store has expanded its footprint and unveiled a sister store in Hammett St, Currajong.

General manager Sharon Schmidt said expansion had been on the menu for around three years.

“We were looking around but we just couldn’t find the right site,” Ms Schmidt said.

“We wanted somewhere with off-street parking, an outdoor undercover area and we wanted to be surrounded by residential plus other businesses. We’ve got all of that here.” Ms Schmidt said some of their regular customers were now going to the Currajong cafe as it’s closer to home, but it was also attracting new customers in the area who were keen to see what the fuss was about.

“We’ve always been quite busy at the Cannon Park store and we’ve been flying under the radar a bit in the new store as we work out the kinks, but it’s getting busier,” she said.

Twelve new staff have been brought on to run the Currajong cafe, which features a very similar menu to the original Fatdogz.

“The breakfast wraps are probably our most popular item and we have a vegetarian option as well.

“It’s a very grab and go menu, perfect for people on their way to work.”
