BOXER’S LIFE BACK ON TRACK
MONTEZUMA History 130, 6.30pm
In this one-hour special, British historian and TV presenter Dan Snow (pictured) travels to Mexico to investigate the history, character and legacy of Montezuma, the last great ruler of the Aztecs of
Central America. Along his journey, he uncovers the extraordinary story of the Aztecs themselves, a cultured and civilised people whose lives were governed by elaborate ceremony and blood-curdling ritual. In this fascinating outing, Snow also discovers how, in a titanic clash of cultures, Montezuma faced up to a mortal threat from another world – the weaponry, gold-lust and greed of 16th-century Spanish conquistadors, led by Hernán Cortés, who would ultimately bring large portions of what is now mainland Mexico under the rule of the King of Castile.
HITLER’S PROPAGANDA MACHINE History 130, 8.30pm
Adolf Hitler’s fascination with propaganda was born in the trenches of the First World War. There he saw it emerge as a potent tool of psychological warfare – one that he would harness to build the Nazi movement over the course of the 1920s and early ’30s. This three-part series investigates how he used simple, repetitive rhetoric, striking images and symbolism and his talent as a public speaker to tap into the discontent of the German people. Tonight’s premiere episode, titled “Building The Brand”, explores Hitler’s early propaganda tactics as he rose through the ranks of the Nazi Party, from PR man to ultimate leader.
