Racing, arts, sports and so much more on offer in the Towers

EVENTS in the Towers are gearing up again, with plenty for people to do and see over the next couple of weeks.

If you have a passion for the arts then you may want to head along to the Arts and Culture Meet and Greet at the World Theatre on Friday from 4.30-6pm. The event is a chance for people with an interest in arts and culture to network with fellow artists.

Guest speakers from artistic groups in Charters Towers will attend and Charters Towers Regional Council arts and culture portfolio Councillor Graham Lohmann will talk about the Regional Arts Developmen­t Fund. Towers will hold its annual Internatio­nal Women’s Day Dinner on Friday night. The two-course dinner will be at the Charters Towers RSL and will also include presentati­on of the 2021 Yellow Rose Award and the 2021 Bursary awards. Guest speaker for the night is North Queensland author, poet, speaker and coach Krissy Regan who was raised on a cattle station outside of Charters Towers. No tickets at the door. The Towers Jockey Club will celebrate women on Saturday at its two big events. The club is hosting the first Women Empowering Women High Tea, a free event featuring three guest speakers who have each achieved great heights in their own industries. Regional Developmen­t Australia North and North West Queensland CEO Glenys Schuntner, Netball Queensland chair and Racing Queensland board member Jane Seawright and general practition­er Dr Maggie Mackay will uplift and inspire those attending. Tickets to the high tea are free and can be obtained by seeing Sue at the Towers Garden Centre. The high tea runs from 10amnoon at the Charters Towers

Racecourse. The high tea will be followed by the TJC’S Internatio­nal Women’s Day Race Day on Saturday afternoon.

Keen to try out your new 4x4 and don’t know where to go? The Charters Towers 4x4 Club is holding a come and try day at its track at the North Queensland Motor Sports. The event will run from 8.30am to 12.30pm. The cost for the day is $20 per driver.
